Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Prepare and plan for conducting atmospheric monitoring
  2. Carry out surveys and sampling
  3. Conduct primary analysis and respond to results

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

conduct atmospheric monitoring on at least two occasions, including:

identifying, obtaining and operating equipment and resources for atmospheric testing

inspecting and testing sampling equipment

identifying and applying surveying and sampling techniques

using a range of communication techniques and aids to advise others of work activity and exclusion zones

processing written records and reports.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply relevant documentation, policies and procedures and confirm that the work activity is compliant

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques for conducting atmospheric monitoring

work effectively with others to conduct atmospheric monitoring in a way that meets all required outcomes

communicate clearly and concisely with others to receive and clarify work instructions and to determine coordination requirements prior to commencing and during work activities.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and documentation required to conduct atmospheric monitoring, including:

organisation and site requirements

equipment maintenance systems

site environmental requirements and constraints

principles and techniques for:

identifying and analysing survey and sampling methods

identifying the characteristics of samples taken

determining tools and sampling equipment and their use

interpreting a mine plan

identifying relevant hazards and emergencies

techniques for coordinating and communicating job activities with others.
